\n\t\t\tA National Treasure from Redwoods to Prairies\t<\/h3>\n\t

North of Davenport, Cotoni-Coast Dairies hugs the northern coast of Santa Cruz County, shaped by rugged and beautiful terrain including vast coastal terraces, rolling hillsides, and mountain ridgelines that plunge into deep riparian canyons. Six creeks flow through the landscape and into the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary offshore. A rich diversity of vegetation includes coastal grasslands, oak woodlands, and redwood forests. Diverse ecosystems provide habitat for a variety of rare or special-status species like steelhead, coho salmon, red-legged frogs, and mountain lions. Expansive hillsides offer dramatic vistas of the Pacific coastline and Monterey Bay.<\/p>\n

Just eight days before the end of his presidency, President Barack Obama added the Cotoni-Coast Dairies property to the California Coastal National Monument<\/a>. In signing the monument proclamation, Obama endowed the landscape with special conservation status and brought Presidential recognition to its incredible ecological, cultural, and historic values. Despite decades of conservation efforts, without this monument designation, the landscape might never be available for the public to enjoy or restored to its full ecological richness.<\/p>\n
