Statement from Sara Barth, Executive Director of Sempervirens Fund, on the Passage of Measure Q in Santa Cruz County<\/h3>\n

\"TheSANTA CRUZ, Calif., Nov. 6 2024 <\/strong>\u2013 On behalf of Sempervirens Fund, California\u2019s first land trust, we are grateful to the voters of Santa Cruz County for the passage of Measure Q. This landmark initiative is a significant step forward in the County\u2019s unified approach to water and wildfire protection.<\/em><\/strong> We are proud to have played a leadership role in developing and passing this initiative. Measure Q enhances Sempervirens Fund\u2019s mission to protect and preserve the magnificent redwood forests that define our region’s natural heritage, while helping increase the safety of county residents.<\/p>\n

The success of Measure Q is a testament to the deep commitment of Santa Cruz County residents to environmental stewardship and an understanding that it is integral to community resilience. Years after the devastating CZU Fire, a majority of people in our community have used their votes to say we must do more to protect our communities and natural resources, ensure we have clean water to drink, and make ourselves more resilient against a rapidly changing climate.<\/p>\n

Sempervirens Fund has been at the forefront of conservation in the County for nearly 125 years. Conservation and stewardship of natural lands in the Santa Cruz mountains has proved vital to the region\u2019s quality of life and long term sustainability. The passage of Measure Q will provide crucial resources to enhance the value of this important work. And with the passage of California\u2019s Proposition 4<\/a>, there will be two significant new funding sources coming together to bring significant investment to water and wildfire protection in a time when these needs are critical.<\/p>\n

This investment in our natural resources will pay dividends for generations to come, ensuring that the majesty of our redwood forests and the health of our ecosystems endure for our children and grandchildren to enjoy.<\/p>\n

We extend our gratitude to our partner organizations, particularly the Land Trust of Santa Cruz County, and the many community leaders who worked collaboratively to advance this measure.<\/p>\n

Sempervirens Fund looks forward to working closely with county officials, partner organizations, and community members to maximize the impact of this initiative.
