Notice the air: the fragrance, the temperature, and the moisture.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<h5>Connect to the Earth<\/h5>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Shift to noticing the ground beneath you. If you can touch it with your hands, do so. Spend a few moments in stillness feeling grounded to the earth.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<h5>Listen Closely, and Far Away<\/h5>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Next, notice the sounds that are close to you and filter out all the other sounds. Then transition to noticing sounds from as far away as possible, imagining ultimately that you are taking all the sounds in at once.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<h5>See this Place<\/h5>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Finally, imagine that you have just arrived in this place and when you open your eyes or raise your gaze, take in the sights before you as if for the very first time.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sempervirens.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/trx-invitations.png\" alt=\"Trx Invitations\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"336\" width=\"504\" title=\"Trx Invitations\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\n<h3>\n\t\t\tInvitations for the Six Bridges Trail\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<h5>Candelabra Tree Tea Party<\/h5>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>As you approach this tree, practice some playful imagination. Perhaps you are attending a tea party or a grand ball with the candelabra before you. Are you a giant? A miniature being? What does it feel like to use your imagination among the trees?<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<h5>Bat Sanctuary<\/h5>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Echolocation: Bats use their keen sense of hearing to find a mate and to find food. If you can make your way to the bench on the hill, sit and close your eyes or lower them to the ground. Imagine that you are a bat. What do you hear within five feet of your body? Within 20 feet? As far as you can hear? How does this make you feel?<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<h5>Hero&#8217;s Journey<\/h5>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>As you walk through this sometimes challenging terrain, pick up a stick as if you were a soldier heading into battle, notice obstacles along your path, and (without harming the wildlife) notice your response to these obstacles. What is it like to make your way along the path in this way? What does it remind you of?<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<h5>Thresholds of Connection<\/h5>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>A threshold is a starting point, an entrance, a transition from one thing to another. As you walk along this trail, notice the point at which the following occurs: a temperature change, a change in light or darkness, stepping over something, a change in trail composition, a change in ambient sound, even a change in intuition such as a threat. What other thresholds do you notice? If you stop and pause at these thresholds of connection, what do you notice?<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<h5>Be the Water<\/h5>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>At any bridge, notice the creek bed. Can you trace the water&#8217;s path, to and from this point? Close your eyes and imagine water gathering to reach this point.<\/p>\n\t<p>You might spend some time jotting down or journaling what you noticed during this experience.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sempervirens.org\/news\/introduction-to-forest-bathing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Learn more about Forest Bathing and check out a longer list of invitations to consider<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h5>\n\t\t\tAbout the Park\t<\/h5>\n\n\t<p>Off Highway 1, halfway between Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay, Butano State Park spans more than 4,000 acres in a secluded redwood-filled canyon.<\/p>\n<p>The park typically has fewer visitors than neighboring parks such as Big Basin State Park or Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, giving Butano a serene, secluded feeling. Although much of the park is closed following the 2020 CZU fire, the park&#8217;s miles of popular hiking trails lead through dense redwood forest and up to high ridges offering hikers stunning views of the Pacific coast.<\/p>\n<p>Sempervirens Fund began advocating for the protection of the land in 1921 and the forest was logged until the Park&#8217;s creation in 1957. The trail is natural, often narrow, and does change elevation by 200 feet. Dense vegetation may need navigation. Forests, streams, birdsong, and an occasional fog await, and be sure to look for the bat habitat viewing area along the way.
