The spectacular and iconic Santa Cruz mountains stretch from Montara Mountain to the Sierra Azul range, and from skyline ridges to the sea. The region’s 1,025 square miles, or 656,000 acres, of redwood forest and watersheds, equal 21 San Franciscos and is nearly as large as Yosemite National Park. It is a tremendous, natural complex, and it needs your help.<\/p>\r\n

But, 610 square miles, or 390,000 acres, of priority forest land are still vulnerable to subdivisions and development. This endangers all the animals<\/a> and people who depend on the forest. A vast Sequoia sempervirens<\/em> forest thrived here for at least 20 million years<\/a>, and with your help we can protect what remains and support people and wildlife for generations to come.<\/p>\r\n Of the 10,000 acres of old-growth redwood forests<\/a> in the Santa Cruz mountains, less than 1,000 acres remain unprotected in small, fragmented patches across the region.
